As the Fourth of July approaches, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is reminding the public that there’s no safe way to use consumer fireworks. According to NFPA, coordinator of the Alliance to Stop Consumer Fireworks, U.S. fire departments responded to an annual average of 18,500 fires caused by fireworks between 2009 and 2013. These fires included 1,300 structure fires, 300 vehicle fires, 16,900 outside and other fires, and killed two people per year.
At the recent National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Conference and Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada, keynote presentations, General Session, educational tracks and interactive displays highlighted the growing importance of data analytics in fire and life safety; and the impact that new technology is having in fire prevention and protection today.
The National Fire Protection Association has produced a white paper, Community Risk Reduction: Doing More with More, aimed at helping fire service leaders gain management support for launching a Community Risk Reduction program in their departments.
Every year the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) Standards Council recognizes individuals for outstanding service to the organization in the development of codes and standards. Awards will be presented to 13 individuals at the NFPA Conference and Expo taking place this week in Las Vegas.
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) announced that oxygen consumption calorimetry is the technical achievement to receive this year’s Philip J. DiNenno Prize. The award and $50,000 in prize money were presented today at NFPA’s Conference and Expo to Dr. William Parker of the National Bureau of Standards (now the National Institute of Standards and Technology) for developing the device, now a foundation of modern quantitative fire protection engineering.
